Out of business?

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I had sent in a scathing review before, but it evidently got better. Since I had to live with the mistake, I tried using them, but found nothing interesting. This past year I got a call to get a deal on the annual $199 membership fee based on four years---worked out to $100 annually. I fell for it! DTW is no longer in existence! What a load of ***! And I still own $2000 for the membership, which was picked up by a Third part (Monterey Financial Services). Seems like I should be able to stop paying them since Discover the World out of Florida does not exist anymore! What a crock!

Found out DTW renamed itself--would have been nice to have been notified of that fact since I am a premium member. It is now SmarterGetaways.com.

New ownership?

New policies? We will see.

Scam artists -Keep getting invoices

My husband and I fell for the scam and signed up. Research it immediately upon getting home and cancelled. Fortunately had used a credit card. For 2 years now have been getting invoices for dues renewal and phone calls. I have spoken to supervisor about this and she said that our names would be removed. I just got an invoice from Premium Member Services, Carlsbad, CA 92008 which is not listed by the BBB. I will be sending them a letter and one to the BBB. These people just don't let go and their accounting system / business system is the pits. They are using the time share units no one wants.

Big Rip off

My wife and I also got scammed. We were the *** ones that signed up. But on the drive home we thought about it and when we got home I tried for the next few days to call and cancel. I called at least every hour for the next 3 days and got no answer. But on the 4th day at 8am sharp the phone was answered. And she told me that it was to late to cancel even though I had been calling. She said that he had been there and the phone never rang. (Bs). Can someone please let me know how to get out of this contract. Please

Send them a certified, signature required letter outlining what you did to cancel withing the three days and the results. Inform them that because they apparently purposefully made themselves unavailable for you to cancel, you consider any "contract" null and void.

I hope you didn't give them any financial info like a credit/debit card number or a bank account number. If so, immediately cancel the cards so they cannot charge you or take money from your account.

Then, sit back and wait for them to try to enforce the contract. Good luck.

I did give them info. But they are not taking money out of my account.I was so mad that I refuse to pay them and then they started sending collection notices.

I talk to the collection company and it seemed to me that the all worked together. Everything I tried to explain to them they just defended dtw.

Rip Off

DWT preys on older couples. We, unfortunately were at a time when we were venerable due to familly deaths and were just looking for something we could do and share with our family. We made a huge mistake by trusting them. It makes you feel very *** when you trust someone who totally rips you off. The free cruise was not free and I could never get the date I wanted for the cruise. They are always requesting money. Anytime I looked for a vacation there were none in the places I wanted. They promised all kinds of things and did not come through with any of them. I will look into filing criminal action against them. I will not pay a renewal fee for this even if they send me to collections. I will fight it. It breaks my heart to think of others being bilked out of their savings by this company.

DTW is a scam!!!

We filled out all of the paperwork after being shown all of the "awesome deals" they had to offer. The next day when I was able to access my DTW account, I saw that those offers were NOT there and was faced with the harsh reality that my husband & I had been scammed BIG time! My husband was able to get us out of the contract due to a grace period of 3 days the contract offered thank God. A couple months later someone opened up a Paypal credit card using my husband's information. We realized it was someone who worked for DTW b/c the sales person had accidentally written our address down wrong on the carbon copy we had been given of our signed contract and that's the address that the person opening the card used. Steer clear of this company. They survive off of ignorant trusting people who have no clue what a real deal is. Just remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it is.

We've been members for just over 3 yrs now. We love to cruise. Although I've been on some really nice cruises, I think our best vacation was in Mexico at the Westin Laguna Mar. I absolutely loved it. We paid $499 dollars for a week, I Just wish we could have stayed longer. If you get a chance, be sure to try the Lobster Tacos the are the best I've ever had. Had it for lunch 4 times ;-) My kids loved the Infinity pool with the slide in it. As for the shopping its not the greatest but who cares it was so beautiful Can't wait to go back :-) Jackie

My husband and I signed up with them last year. Is it possible to get out of the contract?

Guest

You can contact the attorney general and then they will do something for you. What those company's do is...

When there are a lot of complaints. They close that club and open another one. With the same content. Just a different homepage.

If anyone else has been scammed.

Also send a letter to the owner from an attorney as well. Hope that helps

Guest

The cruise is not free! They charge double tax than the cruise line charges and the also profit from the $199/person on most dates for cruises.

They claim its premium dates that the cruise lines don't charge.

In the DNS, you can go cheaper buying your own cruise rather than the "free" cruise from DTW. Huge rip off!

We were also scammed and talking to an attorney to sue. It's a huge scam!

Questionable...After purchasing from DTW we checked out things on the internet and the only post we could find was this one (if anyone has others please let us know). In most posts that my wife and I have seen, for businesses in general, the person posting gives the details of their experience.

However, in this post it seems to be someone that is really ticked off about something this guy Jim did. We had a pleasant experience and the have only used the membership one or two times, and it's worked great.

We really love then rebates. My wife's a shopper, big time.

This complaint was actually made by a disgruntled employee who was later bragging to some mutual friends of one of our office staff that he had written it. There is no real complaint made, only accusations about nothing.

Discover DTW is in fact a licensed Seller of Travel and has saved thousands of members thousands of dollars on travel and other day to day expenses. Discover DTW does not get people out of timeshares directly, but has contracted with a third party company that has successfully assisted hundreds of clients get out of their timeshare contracts with a 100% success rate.

Yeah I don't believe you at all. Especially since you are anonymous.

This company is a scam & the only thing they do well is lie and cover up bad reviews. I won't stop until this company does!

Guest

WOW! Let's pretend that's a real complaint.

As a consumer who responsibly researches a company, I am looking for reviews that delineate positives and negatives. This was a blatant attack on individuals rather than an organization. Clearly this "consumer" didn't consume anything as there was no complaint of a vacation gone wrong or a specific trip gone awry as a result of a dysfunctional establishment.

This complaint of scamming is atrocious, lacks authenticity, and is clearly a ploy to circumvent the plans of consumers like myself.

As for me, I will continue to research this company and only take heed to intelligent reviews, whether good or bad, that aren't laden with grammatical errors and an obvious vendetta against individuals in lieu of an organization as a whole. Consequently, this "review" was not helpful and very misleading as my research of this company revealed that its group of members does not petition the business of those in California.

Reviews are meant for real consumers, not disgruntled individuals who obviously have a relationship with the members mentioned by name.

Absolute waste of my time. I will search out REAL reviews to make an educated decision on which travel club to collaborate with.

Discover DTW - Membership Review from Gastonia, North Carolina

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I signed up for "platinum membership" with my wife in Statesville, NC. Lots of promises about real personal service, no dealing with Expedia, Priceline, etc. Their prices beat them hands down because DTW deals in direct. Yeah, they got my $4500 (I got a "deal"). I used their services to book a hotel in Ft. Wayne, IN, and a future booking in Los Angeles. I went through their concierge service, and requested a handicapped room because of my wife in both instances. We got to the hotel in Ft. Wayne and were given a room on the third floor nowhere near a elevator. My wife called the front desk about this, and found out that the room had been booked by a "third party" through, wait for it, Priceline. NOTHING was mentioned about requiring a handicapped room. The hotel immediately moved us to one. I then called the hotel I booked through DTW for October 2015. Again, it was a third party booking through Priceline, and there was not a mention of a need for handicapped access requirements. Again, I made the arrangements for a handicapped room. I sent a letter of complaint by certified mail in early July, and gave never received a response. I also filed a complaint on their website (www.vacationowners.net), and never received an explanation. I am being charged 165/monthly for my "platinum membership"; I just had to put my wife in assisted living, and I will never use the "service" again. Time for a class action suit. They are nothing but a total scam.

Discover DTW delivers as promised

Discover DTW only sells in the Southeast US while the poorly written complaint on this website slanders their name and the name of the owner, but the complaint is from someone living in Anaheim, California. It seems odd that it is written in broken English and Discover DTW just broke off a very bad business relationship with the owner (who always speaks and writes in broken English) of a poorly run travel fulfillment company out of Anaheim just a few months prior to the complaint being written. Discover DTW is in fact licensed to sell travel and the complaint written in July from CA doesn't even contain a single fact or reason for the complaint.

Ari Daniels aka Mammon and his mother Tess Vondra have been scamming distributors of travel services for the past few years. Then they turn on us and report us as the ones doing wrong by our clients. We have been doing everything we can to shut down IDS, Inc.

Well said. IDS, Inc out of Richland Hills, CA is run by a family of crooks.
